If you have a teenager learning to drive, or even one that already has their license, you can be a lot more helpful than you think. Preparing Your Teen for the Road While driver's training provides your teenager with the basics, they still need a lot of coaching from you. Once they receive their learner's permit, here are some different ways you can help your teenager learn the rules of the road
- Have your teen drive you everywhere possible
- Talk to your teen as you are driving — turn off the radio and talk about safety hazards you may encounter during your travels
- Don't rant, yell, scream or shout until you get home
- Review your driving sessions
License to Drive Your child may have their license, but your work is far from over! Now is the time for you to pay careful attention to your teenager while providing guidance and discipline. Here are some helpful suggestions.
- Meet your teen's travel companions
- Remind your teen about the risks
- Choose a safe car
- Ride Periodically with your teen
- Have your child share insurance and other costs
Teen Driving Laws - Stay informed! The driving laws in each state change fairly frequently, especially the ones involving teenagers (i.e. curfew, number of passengers allowed etc.). Stay one step ahead and make sure your teenager checks the local secretary of state's website every few months to see if any new laws have been created or current laws have been changed.
